BANGOR, MAINE., — A staged kidnapping with the help of a Facebook account went horribly wrong and resulted in the murder of a 15-year-old girl.
Kyle Dube thought he would use a fake Facebook account to lure 15 yr. old Nichole Cable out from her home so that he could fake her kidnapping then appear to be the “Hero” and rescue her. Unfortunately for Nichole and her family, Nichole’s dead body was found in a wooded area of Old Town.
The cause of death is still being determined but reports say that after Nichole left her home, Kyle met up with her in a wooded area wearing a ski-mask and attacked her. He duct-taped her and threw her in the back of his father’s pickup truck. Shortly later Kyle discovered that Nichole had died and threw her body into the woods covering her up with branches.
Police asked Facebook to release records identifying the owner of the fake Bryan Butterfield Facebook account, which was used to lure Nichole out. The account traced back to Kyle Dube and his parents’ home in Orono.
