A man is charged with animal cruelty after he was caught on video purposely driving over his pet Chihuahua in an alley, leaving the dog to bleed to death.
Michael David Parker, 45, was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after video showed Parker pulling over in a Hawthorne alley and seemingly removing the small Chihuahua from the trunk of his car. Parker then enters his vehicle with the dog appearing to come around the front. Parker slowly backs up and then speeds forward running over the dog.
The investigation began after a resident reported a dead animal in an alley off El Segundo Boulevard and Doty Avenue. The resident went to police after reviewing the surveillance video.
Parker admitted to being the man in the video, but told detectives it was an accident and was released from jail after posting $20,000 bail. The dog was shared by Parker and his estranged wife.
