How far would you go to end a physical ailment if you did not have the aide of professional medical assistance? One man from Newton Abbot in Devon, went as far as performing his own surgery.
After 16-years of what he describes as agonizing pain from a previous motorcycle accident, Mark Goddard,44, decided to take matters into his own hands… or hand.
Hospitals refused to treat Goddard and so he built a homemade guillotine which he used to chop off his own hand. Unfortunately, the homemade guillotine only severed part of Goddard’s hand and he had to complete the job with a knife.
After Goddard severed his own hand, he threw it into a fire pit, to ensure that surgical technicians could not sew it back on. The former mechanic was rushed to the hospital where it was estimated that he lost two pints of blood during the self-surgery.

Even though extreme measures were taken, Goddard’s pains are still continuing and he has since threatened to cut his arm off at the elbow if he is not treated.
