The 4th of July is supposed to be a day of celebration but this Independence Day turned tragic when a man lights fireworks from his head and dies instantly.
Devon Staples along with some friends were drinking alcohol and setting off fireworks Saturday night in the backyard of a friend’s home in eastern Maine, when the 22-year-old placed a reloadable fireworks mortar tube on his head and told friends he was going to light it.
Unfortunately Staples who was holding a lighter accidentally set off the firework killing him instantly. It was revealed that Staples had worked at Disney World as “Beauty and the Beast” character Gaston. Staples was a former Orlando resident who worked as a performer at Disney World, according to the New York Daily News.
Stephen McCausland, a spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said Staples’ death marks Maine’s first fireworks fatality since the state legalized fireworks in 2012.
