Montgomery County police say that two women are in custody after stabbing two children to death and severely injuring 2 others. Zakieya Latrice Avery, 28, and Monifa Denise Sanford, 21, of Germantown were charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Zyana Z. Harris, 2, and Norell N. Harris, 1. Avery and Sanford were also charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder of the other two children, Taniya Harris, 5, and Martello Harris, 8, who both remain hospitalized.
Montgomery County police responded to Avery’s home on the 19000 block of Cherry Bend Drive in Germantown, where two of the children were pronounced dead. The two other siblings, ages 5 and 8, were found alive with stab wounds. Both Avery and Sanford who are said to have met at church, had been living together at the house in recent months. The children’s father does not live in the area and is currently separated from Avery, but was said to have been returning to be with the surviving kids
Avery is said to have told investigators that an exorcism was necessary to remove the presence of the devil and evil spirits in the children. Both women were being held without bond on charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
