Shocking video captures the final moments of a newlywed firefighter’s life as he is shot and killed by an off-duty Kansas City police officer during a scuffle.
It is being reported that Anthony Bruno, 26, and Stephanie Bruno, 29, were celebrating their wedding when they had taken a cab from a restaurant to the Kansas City Marriott Downtown with Anthony’s cousin, who had been drinking heavily at the restaurant and had fallen asleep there.
An argument over cab fare between the taxi driver and the Brunos ensued and that’s when Stephanie Bruno alleges the cab driver not only kept the meter running but threw her money back in her face. “That’s when my husband got out of the taxi and began hitting the taxicab driver,” Stephanie Bruno said. Three men were approached the taxi to protect the driver and nearly started another fight.
Officer Hubbard was working security for the Marriott when he saw the group arguing and saw Anthony Bruno leaving the area. That’s when Hubbard went in pursuit. Hubbard caught up to Anthony Bruno and attempted to arrest him but resisted.
The video shows Police Officer Donald Hubbard on top of Anthony Bruno when the two begin to scuffle with one another. You can hear the people video taping telling Bruno not to fight the officer. Bruno ends up getting on top of officer Hubbard and begins striking him in the face and a few seconds later the gun can be heard going off. Hubbard explains, “I feared for my life and I drew my weapon, fired two shots center mass.”
Bruno was hit with two gunshots one in the chest, and one other hit the heart, diaphragm and liver. Hubbard and other officers assisted with CPR until a Fire Department medic crew arrived but Bruno was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Hubbard was taken to a hospital where his injuries included a broken eye socket, a fractured cheekbone, a cut above his left eye that required two stitches and loss of feeling in the left side of his face.
