During a news segment, WKBT News anchor – Jennifer Livingston took out some time to directly respond to an email she received from a male viewer berating Jennifer because of her weight. The email was subjected – “Community Responsibility” and an excerpt reads

I was surprised indeed to witness that your physical condition hasn’t improved for many years, Obesity is one of the worst choices a person can make and one of the most dangerous habits to maintain. I leave you this note hoping that you’ll reconsider your responsibility as a local public personality to present and promote a healthy lifestyle.

Jennifer Livingston said in response:

To the person who wrote me that letter — do you think I don’t know that? That your cruel words are pointing out something that I don’t see? You don’t know me. You are not a friend of mine. You are not a part of my family. And you have admitted that you don’t watch this show. So you know nothing about me but what you see on the outside. And I am much more than a number on the scale.

Was this man sincere in his letter to Jennifer or was he just being a plain old “A” hole who thought it would be funny to send an email in attempts to humiliate another human being?

I think Jennifer did bring up an important point when she said, “Do not let your self worth be defined by bullies.”

  1. He had a point. What she’s like on the inside is irrelevant to what he was saying so her reply was worthless. What she represents on the television is her ‘outside.’

That said; there are medical reasons etc. why someone may be overweight, so I don’t think I’d have sent in a letter just assuming she was stuffing her face and not exercising.
