BJ Penn Retires after Brutal Defeat by Frankie Edgar

UFC legend BJ “The Prodigy” Penn has fought last fight ever in the octagon after suffering a brutal defeat by Frankie “The Answer” Edgar.

Penn Suffered a one-sided beating at the hands of Edgar during the “The Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale” at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. Penn, 35, stated he easily dropped to 145 pounds for the fight and was in top physical condition to compete.

An emotional and disappointed BJ Penn announced his retirement during the post-fight interview citing: “I’m thinking to myself, ‘Why did you step back into the Octagon after the beating that Rory MacDonald gave you?'” Penn continued, “I really needed to find out. If I didn’t make this night happen for myself, I would have always wondered. I would have gone back and forth and begged Dana to let me get back in. I guess I needed some closure.” Frankie Edgar described the victory as “bitter-sweet”

Although Penn retires, the future Hall of Famer leaves behind a legendary highlight reel and being one of the only fighters to hold titles in 2 different weight classes of the UFC.
