Grizzlies Coach David Fizdale Expresses Disgust with NBA Refs

Head coach for the Memphis Grizzlies – David Fizdale expressed his total disgust with the referees after a Game 2 loss to the San Antonio Spurs.

This is yet another instance of either a coach or player expressing that the NBA refs are for the most part, negatively impacting the game. NBA Officials bring a “human element” and mistakes can be made but is that element a good thing?. Are there other motives involved when a ref makes a call? Do they or anyone they know have money on the game? Do they like a particular player more than the other? These are just questions that arise when the “human factor” can have such a big influence on the game.

I guess it is easy to be critical when most of us have a better view of the game at home but this lingering issue does not seem to go away. Not only in the NBA, but in the NFL and MLB. Oddly enough, you don’t hear nearly the same complaints in Hockey. Why is that?

I think we all can clearly see if an official (for any sport) makes a mistake, you can most of the time see them try to give a sleight advantage back to the affected team. With all the technology available, is it necessary to have all these officials on the field, court etc.? Can there be 1 person in a booth that makes the call and has the option to use replay? What do you think?
