PSN Update: 5/19/2011 Welcome Back Package Details

So now that the Playstation Network (PSN) is back, details of their “Welcome Back Package” has been released. PS3 users can choose only 2 of the following 5 games:

  • Little Big Planet
  • Dead Nation
  • InFamous
  • Super Star Dust HD
  • WipeOut HD

PSP users can get 2 of 4 games:

  • Little Big Planet PSP
  • ModNation Racers
  • Pursuit Force
  • Killzone Liberation

You can only obtain these  within the first 30 days of service returning. There are also some free movie rental perks included. This will be over the weekend and it is Sony’s choice of what movies will be selected. Yes that’s right, Sony’s choice, not your own.

There will be 30 free day trial of Playstation Plus and those who already have a membership will receive an additional 60 days of service with no charge.

Existing Music Unlimited Premium Trial members will receive 30 days plus time-lost.

Sony Home will also offer 100 free virtual items to the Home Mansion virtual space and Ooblag’s Alien Casino which is an exclusive game.

Now, if you ask me, Sony is getting away “Scott-Free”. They have not offered there users anything tangible. I’d rather have $100 placed in my PS3 wallet so that I may choose what I want. I believe if someone wanted to be a Playstation Plus member or Music unlimited member, they would have purchased a subscription. Sony is trying to shove their services down the users throat. So what happens after 30 days? I’ll tell you, you will have to pay for it if you want to continue to receive it. Another marketing ploy by Sony. I hope some people are smart enough to see that Sony plans to make every bit of money back that they spent on the new network and they plan to use their consumers money to do so.

I want to know what you think? Do you think that their “Welcome Back” package is fair? Do you think that they should offer more? If so, what? Please leave your comments and vote in the poll.

  1. >Legally Sony isn't obligated to give consumers anything besides better protection for our personal information, but if you read the user agreement we signed to use the network, even that is something to be questioned. The "Good Will Program" is a marketing ploy. They are trying to save face, make peace and promote all at the same time. They are a company that wants and needs to make money with this olive branch. And they will. At the same time they REALLY don't have to give us anything.Yes, Sony had a security flaw in their servers. Show me a company that doesn't. They had an exploit they did not notice in Amazon's Cloud program. I'm sure that someone in either Amazon's or Sony's camp sold or just flat out told the hackers about this doorway and, well…here we are today. The real problem in all of this is the addict-like rants of consumers who feel entitled for free games, apologies and a instant fix to what is a HUGE IT nightmare. It's this kind of entitlement that the Hackers felt that originally started this whole mess. For the past three weeks I have heard NOTHING but bitching and childish temper tantrums from immature, spoiled "children" that are not getting their immediate gratification from their Call of Duty multiplayer, not being able to play with their buddys online, or not being able to download something. It sickens me to think that these rants and foot stomping people might be parents instilling these behaviors onto their kids, "Well, you didn't get what you wanted immediately, go fall on the floor and cry and beat your head into the floor", because in all honesty that's how these folks are acting.Be patient, be thankful that the company is giving out some free stuff (even if it's not what YOU want), and for the love of God please shut up and do something constructive with yourself until Sony fixing the issues at hand.

    • No one can argue that “Legally” Sony is not obligated to give their consumers anything. What we are talking about is consumer relations. You do not want to seem like you are trying to make more money off of the consumer who’s information YOU as a company jeopardized. There are many people that will not accept these “Free-Trial” incentives merely because they know the true intentions. No Sony is not obligated to give consumers anything but, Sony IS obligated to make their consumers happy. Sony has been hit hard and they need to make every move a wise one. They have to re-build their reputation and they will not do so by blatantly trying to make more money off of the consumer. The decision is:

Hope consumers do not see the true intention of the Welcome back pacakge and make most of not all the money back and risk loosing more consumers or

Spend some money, make consumers happy and keep retention.
