How To Get A Job

Finding a job can be one of the most stressful times in a persons life. It is especially hard if you are leaving a job you have been employed with for a substantial amount of time. The first thing that one should do, if you are leaving a job you have been with over a year is FILE FOR UNEMPLOYMENT!.

It is crucial that you get a stream of income flowing while you are looking for work.Filing for Unemployment is easy and requires very little effort, it can even be done online. If you do not have access to a computer, you can go to a library or use a friends or family members.

The rules for receiving Unemployment differs from state to state so, be sure that when you file, you carefully read the Terms and Conditions. Some may require you to visit an office weekly for Job Placement Assistance, some states may even require you to apply to a certain number of jobs weekly. It is always good to carefully read anything that you get yourself involved in.

The next thing you want to do is create or update your Résumé. A Résumé, is a document used by individuals to present their background and skillsets. Résumés can be used for a variety of reasons but most often to secure new employment. A typical résumé contains a summary of relevant job experience and education. The résumé is usually one of the first items, along with a cover letter and sometimes job application packet, that a potential employer encounters regarding the job seeker and is typically used to screen applicants, often followed by an interview, when seeking employment. If you do not know how to create a résumé or don’t know how one should look, Microsoft word has a Template of many different Résumés you can use. You can also download Résumé Templates from the internet for FREE. Always remember to leave your contact information somewhere on the resume. You will be surprised at the number of people who actually forget to put their contact information on the Résumé. Keep your Résumé short, 1-2 pages at the most. Employers have very little time and do not want to and will not read a long drawn out Résumé.

Now that you have your Résumé, it is time to put it to work. The next step is to identify areas of employment that are available to you and within a reasonable distance. If you are in a position where you have a vehicle and can travel a far distance, then that’s great. Some people may have to rely on public transportation. It is in these instances that the location of the job is of the most importance.

Traveling on foot is one way to see what’s available in your area. Just walk in one straight line and go into establishments and ask if they are Hiring. Most will tell you to leave a Résumé but, you might get lucky and see a place with a “Now Hiring” sign.

You can also conduct a search on the internet to see what is available in your area. Some sites also offer a Free Membership where you can upload your Résumé and attach it to each digital application you fill out on their site.
