“Lizzie Borden took an axe
And gave her mother forty whacks.
When she saw what she had done
She gave her father forty-one.”
The Haunting Nursery rhyme which tells the story of the most infamous axe murder in history.
It’s been close to 120 years since Lizzie Borden was found innocent was found innocent in the murders of her father and stepmother in 1892 but questions still remain and this new revelation may hold the secrets to the faithful night.
Two handwritten diaries were found that were written by the families lawyer.
‘It’s all new material, completely unpublished,’ Michael Martins from the Fall River Historical Society, which acquired the journals, told the Boston Globe.
‘It’s the only file [lawyer Andrew Jackson] Jennings retained, and it’s the first idea we have about how the defense went about building its case.’
The diaries contain newspaper clippings, lists of people who were interviewed to build up the defense case and personal comments.
It has remained unclear why Lizzie Borden would commit this crime (if she had) as she was brought up by caring parents. Other say that Lizzie’s father – Andrew Borden, may have abused the children.
No one was ever convicted of the murders and this case remains unsolved…
