BOSTON — A 47-year-old Professor was recently sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison for watching child porn on a commercial airplane. While on a Boston bound commercial flight, a passenger – Kurt Wade, noticed Grant Smith viewing child pornography. The passenger snapped a photo with their cellphone and alerted the flight attendant.
Grant Smith was arrested in Boston and allowed police to look at the contents of his laptop. The police found semi-nude and nude pictures of children some as young as 6-years-old.
The Judge set Grant’s bail at $75,000 cash. Smith also has restricted use of the internet and cannot have unsupervised contact with children under 16-years-old. After Grant Smith pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography, the judge dropped Smith’s 2 1/2-year sentence and placed him on five years’ probation.
As for his job as an Engineering Professor at the University of Utah, Smith is said to have been placed on Administrative leave pending the outcome of the trial. If convicted, the University of Utah vows to fire Smith.
