News broke that Shelly Sterling has been in recent negotiations with the always entertaining former Microsoft CEO – Steve Ballmer who struck a deal to purchase the LA Clippers for a cool $2 Billion dollars. This is reported to be the second highest bid for a sports franchise in North American sports history, just after the $2.15 billion dollar sale of the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2012.

The deal has yet to be official as the NBA would have to approve but word on the street is that commissioner Adam Silver is aware of the recent negotiations and will more than likely have no objections to the purchase.

Steve Ballmer is no novice when it comes to NBA franchises. On March 6, 2008, the Mayor of Seattle announced that a local ownership group involving Ballmer invested $150 million toward a $300 million renovation of KeyArena and were ready to purchase the Seattle SuperSonics in order to keep them in the City of Seattle. As you know the Sonics were since relocated to Oklahoma City and now play as the Oklahoma City Thunder. In January 2013, Ballmer along with Chris Hansen attempted to buy the Sacramento Kings from the Maloof family and relocate them to Seattle for an estimated $500 million.

As for his plans with the Clippers, Ballmer is reported to want to keep the team in Los Angeles… for now.
