The incident occurred on June 14th, 2012 while Adam Tatum was housed in the Salvation Army building. Officers responded to a disorder call when Tatum was kicking the door of a control room. Tatum was said to be holding a knife when the call was made.

A video released by Tatum’s attorney showed officers Sean Emmer and Adam Cooley beating Adam Tatum for over 10 minutes. The beating left Tatum with six fractures to his right leg and two fractures to his left leg, including a compound fracture.

An attorney representing former officers Emmer and Cooley claim that Tatum turned on the officers with a knife and attacked. and repeatedly ignored the lawful orders to ‘stop resisting’ and ‘put your hands behind your back.

Both Emmer and Cooley are appealing to get their jobs back.
