Actor Charlie Sheen has just revealed he is HIV positive in an exclusive TODAY interview with Matt Lauer on Tuesday.
Sheen,50, stated to Lauer in his interview “It’s a hard three letters to absorb. It’s a turning point in one’s life. I have to put a stop to this onslaught, this barrage of attacks and of sub-truths and very harmful and mercurial stories that are about me, that threaten the health of so many others that couldn’t be further from the truth.”
According to reports, Sheen was diagnosed 4-years ago but has no idea how he contracted the HIV virus. “It started with what I thought was a series of crushing headaches,” he said. “I thought I had a brain tumor. I thought it was over.”
Although Sheen trusted his diagnosis with people, some were said to have extorted “millions” from him to keep his illness secret. “What people forget is that its money taken from my children, I trusted them and they were deep in my inner circle, and I thought they could be helpful,” Sheen said.
Sheen was no stranger to a dangerous lifestyle having well documented his addiction to drugs and prostitutes. Sheen entered drug rehabilitation programs and, in 1995, was called to testify in a trial against Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss. He admitted to spending more than $50,000 on prostitutes through her ring.
Sheen hopes to end the extortion and put an end to all the rumors by appearing on TODAY and coming clean. “That’s my goal. That’s not my only goal. I think I release myself from this prison today,” he said. Sheen has two children each with former wives, Denise Richards and Brooke Mueller.
