New Zealand Breakers forward Akil Mitchell suffered a horrific eye injury when his eyeball popped right out of his socket after being poked in the eye while attempting to rebound a basketball.
Taipans centre Nnanna Egwu accidentally poked Akil Mitchell’s left eye right out of its socket in the final quarter on Thursday. The game stopped for 15-minutes while Mitchell was helped from the court and taken to hospital. Mitchell said he could still see from the protruding eye after it had popped out of his socket, saying the sensation was akin to ‘a chameleon, and how they can look in different directions.
Mitchell went on to tweet only a few hours later saying he was doing fine.
👀… too soon? Lol thanks for all the love, well wishes, and prayers tonight. I'm home and seeing fine, more tests tomorrow
