UPDATE:

Suspected gunman in #CharlestonShooting caught in Shelby: Charlotte, NC TV

The Charleston Church shooting suspect has reportedly been identified as Dylann Storm Roof, a 21-year-old from Lexington County, S.C., currently out on bond in connection with recent arrests on drug and trespassing charges. Roof’s uncle, Carson Cowles, recognized his nephew when police released surveillance images taken outside the Mother Emanuel AME Church. “He’s a monster, and they need to catch him, and he needs to pay for what he’s done,” Cowles told the Daily News on Thursday. Cowles says his nephew was “a shy person who kept to himself” but tells the New York Daily News he “never saw” it coming.

9 people have been killed in a shooting at an historic African-American church in Charleston, South Carolina with the shooter is still at large.

The mass shooting occurred at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, the oldest AME church in the south. Chief Mullen said the gunman walked into the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church and attended the meeting for about an hour before open firing. Among the dead, according to reports, was the Rev. Clementa Pinckney, who was also a state senator.

Police say the suspect in the shooting is a clean-shaven white man in his 20s, with a slender build. He was wearing a gray sweatshirt, blue jeans and boots. Anyone with information about shooting on Calhoun Street call dispatch at 743 7200.
