CARNEYS POINT, NEW JERSEY. — Sean Moore gets his son – Josh Moore what LOOKS like a military style assault rifle for his 11th birthday. Sean takes a picture of son Josh holding the rifle wearing a creepy grin on his face and not soon after, child welfare case workers and police officers arrive at the home.
Although the rifle resembles a military-style assault rifle Sean says, it’s actually just a .22-caliber copy. When Sean heard from his wife that Child Welfare and Police were at the house, he immediately got on the phone with his lawyer.
They said they wanted to see into my safe and see if my guns were registered, I said no.
When asked if they had a search warrant, officers said no and that’s when they were asked to leave. State child welfare spokeswoman Kristine Brown said when they receive a report of suspected abuse or neglect, they assigns a caseworker to check out the situation. Law enforcement officers are asked to accompany caseworkers only if the caseworkers feel their safety could be compromised.
