Kid Dies After Playing XBOX

Chris Staniforth, a 20 year old who had a promising career in game design, has died from Pulmonary Embolism. Pulmonary Embolism, is caused by staying in one position for long periods of time. It is essentially a blod-clot.

Chris Stainforth’s father said:

“He got sucked in playing Halo online against people from all over the world.”

Microsoft said they:

“recommend gamers take breaks to exercise as well as make time for other pursuits.”

This is a common sight in today’s children and young adults. They sit for hours in front of their gaming consoles or computers playing video games and doing nothing else. It’s easy for parents to have these games ‘take care of their kids‘ to give them a much needed break but, when something like this happens it’s all of the sudden a big problem and needs a campaign.

Let’s be real, the poor kid died because his parents did not say “Hey! turn off that damn game and do something else.” Occurrences like these do not have to happen if parents would simply act like parents and take control of their children’s lives. It’s not hard to notice not seeing your child for hours, knowing he/she is in the house.

I bet the parents bought the game for him, I bet the parents knew this was a common thing for him to do, I bet they didn’t care until it was too late. Our youth and nation will continue to grow weaker and weaker until we step in.

  1. i cant believe you actually think that was you dropped on the head or something. Its not the parents fault its the kids own fault for playing it without breaks and doing other stuff.

  2. No, it was totally the parents fault for not being involved in their child's life. Until a son or daughter leaves your home and is out on their own, you have an obligation as a parent, to make sure they are safe. You are obviously not a parent nor do you understand that a child is not automatically going to know what's good for them and not. Maybe when you pass puberty you'll understand. Until then, good luck.

  3. my little cousin plays game everyday all day i want him to stop but if you turn it off he crys till he gets it back -_- its so fucking annoying when he crys i wish they NEVER invented games !

  4. Games have been proven to improve hand and eye coordination in adolescents so, there are a few good things that stem from gaming. However, when a person like your cousin, becomes a video game addict, it is not good. Your cousin needs to be introduced to activities that can be played outdoors. Someone needs to step in and get him involved in other things. No matter if he cries or not. He'll get over it.

  5. "I bet the parents bought the game for him, I bet the parents knew this was a common thing for him to do, I bet they didn't care until it was too late."I bet the parents HAD NO IDEA what a pulmonary embolism is or that someone can die as a result of sitting still for too long. I bet the parents assumed (and rightly so) that their TWENTY YEAR OLD ADULT SON (whether living at home or not) was capable enough of moderating his time.I understand that you are upset that this young man died so unnecessarily, as am I, but you are accusing the parents who are totally innocent in this tragedy. I find it appalling that you claim they "didn't care until it was too late." That is absurd. This was a totally unpredictable death. Unless the parents went to medical school THERE IS NO WAY they could have anticipated the repercussions of their son sitting and playing a game for so long. You mentioned he had a "promising career in game design." Perhaps his parents assumed that he was doing something related to that and didn't think twice about it. Perhaps, and most tragically, they thought they were being supportive by leaving him alone to do "his thing." Furthermore, this young man was twenty years old, not a child, and presumably it was no longer his parents' place to tell him what to do nor did their son have any obligation (being a legal adult) to do as he was told. I think you should have considered the situation and circumstances a little more thoroughly before accusing a completely innocent pair of individuals of perpetuating their son's death. Their situation is sad and tragic enough without your insensitive, misguided, and unsubstantiated accusations. This was THEIR loss, not yours, and I BET they feel the pain much more sharply than you do. My heart goes out to them, This was not their fault.

  6. The problem is, like you, Americans are too sensitive, too weak. That is why we are the only Nation that have these problems. You don't hear about any other Nation being overweight, you don't hear about other Nations children dying from playing video games. It is only in America, that we subject our youth to un-healthy lifestyles. You're telling me that Parents do not know that doing nothing but playing video games all day is not harmful? You are out of you're mind. Even the simplest of minds knows that too much of something is not good. It is only when unfortunate events like this occur, that we start thinking to ourselves "Yeah, I could have stopped this. I could have done something sooner."Furthermore, you are not a legal adult until you are out of your parents house and living on your own. Until then, you are still a child. Again, it is America that deems a 18 years of age to be a legal adult when in reality, 18 is no where near to being an "Adult". The kid couldn't buy alcohol yet. Why not? Wasn't he an Adult? I understand that my view is more harsh than many but, to say that my thoughts are misguided, you are totally out of line and need to re-think your thought process.
